Next year, can I sow my morning glories, sweet peas, and other flowers indoors n March first?

I planted my sweet peas in june, but they are only a foot high. I think I planted them late. I have a lot of morning glories, and in some places they are 8 feet high, and in some only 2 feet. There are some other flowers i'd like to start indoors too so they will grow, and bloom faster, like sweet wiliam, and other summer flowering annuals. Can I do sow my morning glories, sweet peas, and the other flowers indoors in march, will they bloom faster grow faster ect? I live in ontario zone 5.

Yes you can. I started seeds indoors in February for petunias and marigolds and morning glories and tomatoes and other things. It was a little too early. The morning glories got out of control! I had the plants under florescent lights. You put the lights just inches above the plants and they grow just great. I think March would be a good time to start them in your zone but be prepared to have them get pretty viney before it is time to plant them. Mine are growing all over the side of the house now and I had tomatoes before the end of June. I am in zone 5/6. The lights are important to keep the plants from getting too leggy. And you don't need grow-lights, any cheap florescent light works.
Reply:Yes, you can. I would start them earlier than March. Make sure you keep the seedlings moist.
Reply:Absolutely.

Most hardware stores or home centers can sell you a small kit with everything you need to start seeds indoors. All you need to supply are the seeds, water and a good warm, sunny window.

Why breeding strains of sweet peas having white flowers crossed?

#1) A white-flowered iris was crossed with a red-flowered iris. Both were true-breeding. The F1 progeny were all red. The F2 progeny were 145 red and 15 white. Suggest a genetic explanation and test it with a X2 test.

#2) Two true breeding strains of sweet peas having white flowers were crossed. All F1s had purple flowers. When the F1s were self-crossed, the F2 generation progeny were 875 with purple flowers and 725 with white flowers.

a). suggest a genetic explanation, and test it with a X2.

b) suggest a biochemical explanation

Are knee high dwarf sweet peas suitable for large containers?

I have a 16 inch pot - and I love sweet peas (the flowers) so much that I was thinking about growing them in there - any thing I might need to know?

Thanks a bunch

Are knee high dwarf sweet peas suitable for large containers?
I would advise you to forget peas and plant tomatoes. Tomatoes do well in large pots and peas don't.

My mum's sweet peas?

my mum's sweet peas are 10'' long, forgot to nip, how far should she nip back

My mum's sweet peas?
Just pinch out the growing tip this will cause the side shoots to break , a more bushy plant with more flowers.

adult teeth

Exactly, how are sweet peas good for you? Or are they?

I am just curious. I love sweet peas but I just wonder if it's a vegetable that helps with something. ????????

Good fiber, source of protein.

Except for lettuce, greens are good for you.

Can you grow sweet peas to hang down without any support?

I want to grow sweet peas to hand down a garden wall. they are ready for planting out now. can I risk it?

Can you grow sweet peas to hang down without any support?
you should harden off if they are in side, they will hang down alright but as they get big you will need to put some stones over roots to hold them there
Reply:I have grown sweet peas in hanging baskets and in window boxes and they will hang nicely. I have had 4 or 5 foot long tendrils come out of window boxes. You can plant sweet peas this time of year as they like cooler weather.

If you want them to run down a wall you will have to use fencing or netting and use little twistie ties to force them the direction you want.
Reply:it should work but wait a little while longer before putting out and acclimatise first, you can also get trailing varieties which would work.
Reply:You can try - they have an upward growing habit, but it could work. I'd be interested in hearing about your results.

Why do my sweet peas not flower?

My sweet peas have healthy leaves and are six foot tall. But some of the plants produce stems with no flower heads on them.

Why do my sweet peas not flower?
Are you 100% sure that they haven't flowered? For awhile I was having that same problem with my lillies. Only to find out that deer were coming by at night and eating everything in site!! I've tried a couple of things to keep the deer away. I've sprinkled hair (yes hair! A friend told me that one) and i've had my dad pee around my garden. The deer smell the meat eater and they stay away. I'm not sure if this could be your problem but its worth a shot!
Reply:Stems on sweet peas can grow even taller than 6ft, mine do!

It still a little early, dont panic they will flower with next couple of weeks.

You may know but you can also buy an ever lasting sweet pea plant. Ive got a few. Had them 20 yers and they come back every year. Check out your local garden centre or nursery.
Reply:perhaps you didn't sow the seed early enough about December in a green house or the weather has been against you give them more time.Did you dig in plenty of compost into the ground before planting out?. My sweet peas are not flowering yet, either but my garden peas are about to flower.

You are not alone.
Reply:Stop feeding them, flowers are a response, (to reproduce because conditions aren't perfect).

Too much nitrogen in the soil is your problem.
Reply:The only thing I know about sweet peas is that they need good long root space.

Did you double dig the ground before you planted them?
Reply:if they are 6 ft dont think you will get a flower show now .you might have had a duff pkt of seeds
