How do I grow sweet pea flowers?I think they need a trellis? Can it be a small one to grow in a pot?

yes, use a dwarf pea, or how big is pot? you could use bamboo poles (come in all sizes) in a wig-wam shape or a few upright with netting or string criss-crossed. Keep cutting flowers, smell lovely in house, encourages blooms and keeps down overgrowth.

there are sweet peas and dwarf sweet peas, but even the darf need some kind of trellis to climb on, the standard sweep pea can grow to 15 high if properly nurtured. you can grow the dwarf in containers quite easily.
Reply:they need cool weather so plant in the fall
Reply:Really agree with hipichick-- they have their own season-- which is much earlier than I thought --at the first sign of heat they collapse. -- fall planting might be best- so they can come up when the ground/pot temperature is right. Another annual with flowers that climb much higher is hycinth bean-- fast grower-- up to 15 foot in one season- lots of seeds made to keep for next year or give away to friends-- they do have a fragrance not as strong as sweet pea.

good luck
Reply:sweet peas generally need a trellis unless yours are a special compact or bush variety.

if using a container, make sure its nice and deep, they like that.
