Who did Sweet Pea belong to on Popeye?

Sweet Pea was found in a basket by Olive Oil

-edit-

Swee'Pea is a character in E.C. Segar's comic strip Thimble Theatre and in the "Popeye" cartoon series derived from it.

In the comics, Baby Swee'Pea is technically the Crown Prince of Demonia, but when his father died, his evil uncle wanted to eliminate him and gain control of the country. To save her baby, Swee'Pea's mother left him on Popeye's doorstep, knowing the trustworthy sailor would protect him. Popeye adopts and raises him as his son, or, as he puts it, "boy-kid". Initially Swee'Pea's speech consisted entirely of the sound "glop". As the years went on, Swee'Pea apparently aged enough to speak normally; however, his appearance remained that of a crawling baby.

In the animated "Popeye" cartoons produced by Max Fleischer and later by Famous Studios, Swee'Pea was portrayed as being in the care of Olive Oyl and at times Popeye, although it was unclear whether he was her or his own child.

Reply:Swee’ Pea was adopted. His mother abandoned him on Popeye’s doorstep with a note asking him to be good to the baby. Later, it was found that Swee’ Pea was the prince of Nazillia, or some such country, and there were people after him who wanted to kill him etc. and Popeye was off on another one of his adventures.
